What colour should I choose?

[vc_column_text]As everyone knows by now, coloured contact lenses have hit the market with a huge bang! Want blue eyes? Don’t worry – We can fix that! Contact lenses are moving away from the idea of correcting vision to that of being a fashion accessory. Now days, many people who are not short-sighted also wear coloured contact lenses to enhance their eyes.

Colour contacts come in three kinds of tints:

  • Visibility tint. This usually is a light blue or green tint added to a lens, just to help you see it better during insertion and removal, or if you drop it. Visibility tints are relatively faint and do not affect your eye color.
  • Enhancement tint. This is a solid but see-through tint that is a little darker than a visibility tint. As the name implies, an enhancement tint is meant to enhance the natural colour of your eyes. Coloured contact lenses with this type of tint is best for people who have light-coloured eyes and want to make their eye colour more intense.
  • Opaque tint. This is a non-transparent tint that can change your eye colour completely. If you have dark eyes, you’ll need this type of colour contact lens to change your eye colour.

Choosing the Right Colour

The contact lens colour that will suit you best depends on numerous factors, such as your hair colour and skin tone. But, ultimately, it depends on the kind of look you want to achieve — subtle and natural or dramatic and daring.

If you are going for a subtle, natural enhancement, consider the following:

  • If you have warm skin tones (yellow or gold undertones) and yellow-blond or golden brown hair colour, contacts that often look best are those that include highlights of light brown, honey, hazel and green.
  • If you have cool skin tones (blue undertones) and strawberry blond, blue-black or salt-and-pepper hair colour, similarly “cool” eye colours of ice blue, violet or plum may be most appealing.

Most Asians have dark eyes and should consider opaque coloured tints if you are looking for something more dramatic.

Another thing to note is that coloured contact lenses usually come in one-tone, two-tone or three-tone shades. A one-tone has just one colour, while a two-tone mixes two tones of the same colour and three-toned ones hass three shades. Three- toned coloured lenses are usually the ones that are the closest to giving the eye a more natural look with more depth and dimension.
